Diplo has revealed that Jack Ü secretly finished a full second album before he and Skrillex split — but the music may never see daylight due to what he calls a “broken” relationship and lingering personal tension.
Speaking on Smart Girl Dumb Questions with Nayeema Raza, Diplo shared that the unreleased project features collaborations with Charli XCX, Florence + The Machine, and more.
“We did a whole second album,” he said. “We recorded so many weird records — but it probably feels dated now.”
Diplo reflected fondly on their creative alchemy, calling Skrillex his ideal counterpart:
“We were such a good combo. I have wild ideas for pop music, and he’s the best in the world at making sounds where you’re like, ‘What the fuck?’”
But behind the scenes, things fell apart.
“Skrillex hates me,” Diplo admitted. “It’s a real kind of crazy hate that I just can’t understand. We even tried mediation. I tried — there’s none on his side. But I just love the guy. We were like brothers.”
Jack Ü launched in 2013 and released their debut album in 2015, winning two Grammys and reshaping the EDM-pop landscape with hits like “Where Are Ü Now” featuring Justin Bieber, “Take Ü There” with Kiesza, and AlunaGeorge collab “To Ü.”
Their explosive run made them festival fixtures — until the project suddenly dissolved, leaving fans hoping for a reunion.
Now, that hope feels distant.
“Maybe the dynamic didn’t work,” Diplo said. “It was just broken.”
